I teach in a Title I school.
Our school has a high ELL population and we participate in the free breakfast program. My school is very diverse. For some, kindergarten is their first exposure to school and other children outside of their own family. This year we started a full day kindergarten program. We have decided to bring back learning through play and are working very hard to develop active and engaging centers.
My Project
These materials will be used during centers and small groups. All students in the classroom will have access to the materials. The educational board games and playful learning tools will encourage purposeful play and will be used to develop socialization skills, while emphasizing the importance of sharing and taking turns. The students will absolutely love going fishing for sight words, reading via whisper phones, creating shapes with Geostix, practicing phonics skills with stamps, testing their engineering skills by building ramps, throwing balls to develop addition skills, and so much more!
The math and literacy games and materials for this project will help to make center time both engaging and fun.
Developing a center based program takes both time and money. Schools are doing their very best to provide teachers with the materials that they need, but limited financial resources and budget cuts often times takes away from the amount of playful learning materials and games that can be purchased from year to year. Your donation will help to keep purposeful play in kindergarten
