Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching students with Autism brings me so much joy. I have a group of students with Autism alongside their non-disabled peers who are English Language Learners and from low income families. As a means of promoting integration, we adopted the Circle of Friends - The Path to Inclusion.
The main advocacy is to provide avenue to develop genuine friendships among students with special needs alongside non-disabled peers.
Circle of Friends increase the understanding and acceptance of individual differences and decrease bullying. It integrates students with disabilities into mainstream campus life and helps expand the new relationships they have formed into the community at large.
The use of technology in our program will provide opportunities for our students to build friendship, explore, and enhance their creativity.
My Project
Using technology has been effective in targeting the main challenges of students with autism. Most of them
are visual learners; therefore, using application with vivid and bright photographs along with colorful and attractive themes, provides a fun learning platform and a voice for children struggling to communicate on their own.
Through the use of technology language and communication are no longer remote possibilities for these children. Communication and learning are finally within grasp. In addition, the iPads will also be use as a tool in building friendship among my students and their peers. In doing so, the iPads will be use to watch and create videos.
