Disciplinary Reading Across Content Areas

Help me give my students core content related award winning and STEM related books to read in math, science, social studies, and English class.

  • $640 goal

This project expired on September 14, 2019.

Hooray! This project is fully funded

My Students

My students are wonderful. They are hard working and love to learn. My students are involved in all school activities, community activities and charitable volunteering. These students are inquisitive and anxious to learn all they can in each of their core classes. My students love to do research and read about issues, people, and experiences that interest them. Research increases their background knowledge and allows them to have interesting discussions in the classroom. Seventh and eighth grade students are an interesting group to be around.

My Project

Students benefit from reading in the content areas in many ways. Reading in the content areas helps students develop an interest in varied topics within the subject area. Giving students an opportunity to read these books to enhance vocabulary knowledge as well as content knowledge. Students may-. be inspired to communicate more with their content teachers to share what they are learning, ask questions, and have deeper discussions related to multiple topics.

Teachers currently do not have content related books for students to read.

Students are also not given dedicated time to read and with the purchase of these books, I will put them in the hands of content teachers who will be able to encourage students to read during their study period at the end of the day.
