I work at a preschool with students ages four and five. Our preschool is district-run and serves many students with various disabilities. Our school's goal is help as many of these students catch up to their typically developing peers before kindergarten as possible. We follow the Utah Preschool Core Curriculum as well as the High Scope Curriculum. Being in a preschool means lots of hands-on projects and exploration throughout the day. Children this age learn through play and active engagement in their day. This makes for fun filled days that are planned by the teacher to be child-centered and still allow for the children to help guide the outcome of each day.
My Project
We are moving! Our new classroom lacks storage! Help us keep our room free of distracting clutter piles.
Teaching in the Early Childhood setting takes a lot of supplies.
From hands on manipulatives to practice math and science concepts, to art supplies to magnetic letters, almost everything we do involves something to move and touch.
We are being moved to a new beautiful building, but it lacks in storage space that all they manipulative can be tucked into to keep them out of sight when not being used. I believe that having stuff all over the room distracts students. I would like to be able to get more storage options that can be placed on my expansive counter tops to keep everything neat, tidy and as out of sight as possible, thus helping my students focus on the task at hand.
Being able to quickly access our materials that are neatly organized will also benefit my students in that learning time will not be lost in hunting through piles on the counter to find the supplies that are needed.
