Dis-abilities Become 'Abilities' in a Technology Driven Classroom!
My students need two Apple iPad tablets with protective cases, CozyPhones headphones, and Tiggly Shapes Interactive Learning Games and Wootzy Colors StEM Storiez Books to make learning FUN and EXCITING.
Our students range in age from 3-5 years and have varying levels of developmental delays. We are situated in a public Headstart/Pre-K building but are considered part of the school system which poses some problems (most often with funding).
Parents often have a hard time letting their "babies" come to school for the first time at such a young age (often when they can't communicate), however, when they are able to verbalize the details of the day it makes it all worth it.
The absolute best part of my job is when one of my kiddos "gets it" for the first time and you can see the light in his/her eyes. Then I know, without a doubt, that I am EXACTLY where I am supposed to be!
I currently am teaching twenty-three children (some are in the 3-year-old program and some in the 4-year-old program), and they have varying levels of support. The ultimate goal is to prepare them with the tools they need and the intervention (early) in order to remediate any delays we can and make the kiddos as functional in a general education classroom as possible.
My Project
We are asking for funding for two Apple with protective cases and headphones iPads for the classroom. We are also asking forTiggly Shape Interactive Learning Games for Kids and Wootzy Colors StEM Storiez Books that are specifically for children ages 3-7 and focuses on shapes, colors, numbers, and letter knowledge. This software is hands-on and focuses on pre-academics, as well as fine motor skills.
By providing this information in an ENGAGING and an EXCITING way, my students will develop a love for learning that will stick with them forever.
We are also asking for funding for some sensory friendly headphones, so that all of our friends can enjoy and benefit from the technology available.
