Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach third grade at a school where roughly 70% of students speak a primary language other than English. My students are gifted in understanding compassion, differences, and what it means to struggle. When we come together each day from a wide variety of backgrounds it's a unique opportunity to learn from each other and the community around us. Many of them are fighting for a life very different from their current realities.

They're learning that the power to change lies within themselves regardless of circumstances.

As a teacher I am privileged to help them in that process. My instructional focus in math and science pushes me to find the best methods, materials, and supports I can to help them succeed.

My Project

Science brings out the natural inquisitor in all of us. My students have so many great questions about the world around them and I love giving them opportunities to discover and discuss their findings. Watching videos of other people making discoveries is one thing but when students have the opportunity to make those discoveries themselves it's a whole different ball game. Unfortunately, we're often stuck with great lessons and activities without the needed materials for students to really dive in and get their hands dirty.

These materials will help bring science to life in our classroom as students explore the natural world.

The plans are laid and I'm excited to see what they'll discover but we truly need your help to make it happen!
