My Students

Our school is located in the small town of Hillsborough, NC. We are a Title I school with about 450 students in grades K-5. We have a fast-growing ESL population and students at our school LOVE to come to school because of our emphasis on community and character education.

Caring, helpful, achieving, motivated problem-solvers are character traits frequently used to describe our students.

Last Valentine's Day I received a beautiful homemade Valentine from one of my students. Inside the card he had written: "You are such a good teacher. I will never stop working hard for you." This is just one of many examples of how amazing our students are each and every single day!

My Project

These engaging magazines will allow students to comprehend informational (nonfiction) articles and utilize real world data to learn various elementary math skills.

The integration of math and literacy will make these high-interest magazines accessible to all students.

Also, since the DynaMath magazines are geared towards students in grades 3-6, they will provide multiple enrichment opportunities for students looking for additional challenges during Math Workshop.

Since we are departmentalizing this school year, I will teach two cohorts of third grade students for Math Workshop. My co-teacher will teach the same two cohorts of students for Reading Workshop. I would like to plan some integrated reading and math lessons with my co-teacher, and am confident that the DynaMath magazines would be a great resource for both us teachers and our terrific third grade students!
