I teach language arts to 8th graders that are eager to read and learn. However, the devastation and heartbreak Hurricane Florence brought to North Carolina is hard for them to comprehend. Even now after the storm has left our state, our students are facing flood waters, struggling to find food and clean water, and anxiously wondering when they will be able to return to school. With your help, we can pull together the resources needed for those students directly affected by Florence.
My Project
Many of my students were below the poverty level prior to Hurricane Florence. This catastrophic storm made landfall last week, crashing into the North Carolina coast, devastating families and businesses. It’s a scary time for my students, and I know that many of you, like me, want to know what you can do to help out. DonorsChoose.org just launched a Hurricane Florence recovery effort, which means they’re accepting donations from the public to apply to projects from teachers at damaged public schools. The students at my middle school have lost so much already. I want to ensure that their basic needs are being met once they return to school. No student should ever be without personal hygiene items. With your help, I can ensure that my students return stronger than ever, with their dignity intact.
