Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an urban public school with almost 1,000 students. The students in our school come from very diverse backgrounds and cultures. There are over 15 different languages spoken in the homes of our students, including Spanish, Portuguese, Khmer, and Vietnamese. Over 60% of our students’ homes do not speak English as their primary language and 25% of our student population receives ESL services.
Our middle school is classified as a Title I school and over 80% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Our school is part of the District Reference Group "H," which is the second-lowest socioeconomic level a school can be placed in. Despite these economic barriers, our students strive for academic achievement. Our school community promotes our unique diversity and encourages students to reach their maximum learning potential.
My Project
In our Social Studies class, we study ancient civilizations using both primary and secondary sources. Students participate in historical investigations which require them to analyze historical evidence to support an argumentative position. Students will use this Chromebook to find and analyze primary/secondary sources on the Internet and will also be able to access information that I post on our Google Classroom.
This Google Chromebook will give students an opportunity to investigate historical topics using technology.
Our classroom will become more efficient, collaborative, and technological with the addition of this Chromebook. This Chromebook will be used daily by my students and will become a vital resource in our classroom. Students really enjoy using technology in the classroom and a new Chromebook will help to keep my students engaged in historical topics.
