Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When students come to see me they are reaching out for someone to listen to. I get to talk to all the students in the building pre-k through 8th grade. I have the privilege of working with students that need a little help to get on a path to lead them where they want to be; making great choices for themselves.
Simple conversations make the best lesson for the students.
My students are constantly learning about themselves and what is around them. The biggest gift they take away is their new listening skills to take to the next big decision. All of my students are from an Urban setting and receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
I see a lot of children with a lot of emotions and feelings bottled up inside them. These are smart, loving, vibrant children with something inside them they can't let go.
Sometimes the easiest way to let it go is to write it down or tell the story.
I am requesting a laptop with a case and mouse so students have access to write down their thoughts and ideas in the virtual world where they can always go back to it. I am also asking for a book to help the students start with writing down their stories.
If a student cannot open up to "someone" or me I would also like to do a digital diary of sorts for them. Help them "blog" where only they can see it. No one else needs to know what is going on with them, unless they want to but sometimes just the action of venting their issue will help them overcome it.
In this day and age students are exposed to so much through technology and interpersonally that sometimes they need to tell their story, even if it is just in a personal digital diary.
