P.S. 56 Queens is a Title I school with a student body of approximately 65% eligible for free lunch. Our school had the good fortune to be rewired over the summer for Internet connectivity. We use email to communicate with epals around the world on NASA science lessons. It would be so exciting if we could record our students' voices and send a personal voice message to our epals as we collaborate on space science. Video, you say? That takes too much memory (and editing) but digital audio would be efficient, manageable, and a much smaller file. The students could also take the recorder home to record interviews as part of primary source research. If only we had a digital audio recording device to record student voices that could connect to our PC computers, think what that might do to foster international good will with our epals abroad! The files could also be easily stored on CDs for archival purposes. What a tremendous contribution to each school day that would be in our 21st century classroom!
