If you have ever taught a child to read, you know that re-reading to gain reading fluency is an important skill.
My 1st grade students are amazing students who deserve engaging materials.
Many of my students are not reading yet. We are learning sight words, phonics, and growing our love of books. The students would really benefit from recording, listening to, and practicing their fluency with a digital voice recorder.
My Project
I am requesting 8 digital voice recorders to be used in small groups in my classroom. Digital voice recorders are beneficial for many reasons. First, my English-language learners can listen to a pre-recorded book to help build vocabulary and fluency. Second, digital voice recorders can have student-teachers read sets of vocabulary words, then I can create a matching PowerPoint presentation with the words and burn them onto DVDs for the students to take home and listen to. Most students in my classroom do not have computers at home, but they do have DVD players. And having a variety of student-teachers record the words makes students more adept at recognizing what they are. Last, I can use the digital voice recorders to present audio books and/or student read books in the classroom. Hearing a model reader helps with the fluency and the comprehension.
My students need digital voice recorders to strengthen their reading skills!
I believe I will be able to integrate many forms of technology with the addition of these digital voice recorders.
