Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the PreK classroom, we use very little technology because we want kids to engage in hands-on activities and interact with each other as much as possible. But, technology has importance for young children, when it is used in moderation.

We use iPads in the classroom to tell stories, research topics, enhance portions of a lesson, and for assessment data that the teachers take.

Writing is a significant component that evolves throughout the grade levels, starting with kindergarten. Young children do not yet have the tools to write their stories. However, with the help of technology, they can tell stories verbally using a microphone and digital storytelling applications. By starting early we are setting our students up for success and encouraging those imaginative thoughts to develop.

Throughout the day, students have questions about different things they want to know more about. Having an iPad on hand will allow students the ability to look up information with an adult and get the answers to their questions.

I would also like to use it to project on the whiteboard as a visual aid for my lessons. Videos, photos, and other examples can help students focus on the lesson that is being presented and get a deeper understanding of its message.

Finally, the iPad would be used to collect data (notes, videos, and photos) for the students' online assessment portfolio. We use anecdotal notes for assessment purposes. The iPad is small enough for us to take with us wherever we go so that we can be ready to document specific objectives/standards.
