The face of education is changing and students need 21st Century skills to be prepared for the future. Incorporating digital story telling in the classroom teaches the students how to use multiple forms of technology while motivating them to take more pride in their writing. It's fun too!
My 5th grade students are highly diverse in their abilities, interests, cultures, personalities, and socioeconomic status.
Our school is a gifted and talented magnet and a quarter of my students are in the gifted program. The other three quarters are in general education classes. More than half of my students receive free or reduced lunches due to poverty, but they don't let difficult circumstances stand in their way. All of my students work very hard and love new challenges, especially when it comes to technology.
My Project
Having headphones and microphones that connect to the students' laptops will allow my students to interact with technology in a whole new way. Digital story telling is the process of writing a story then adding drawings, clip art, photos, or images on the computer. Once the story is typed and images are added, students spend time adding audio. They can add music or narration to the story and bring it all together. Once the story is complete, students can share their stories with each other in class or across the Internet with family. This level of activity brings out students' creativity and encourages them to do their very best story telling.
The ultimate goal of digital story telling is to improve students' writing abilities and technology skills.
Having headphones and microphones will allow the students to write stories at a whole new level that will be engaging and motivating for students.
