Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the most wonderful creative, fun souls to work with. We are a Title One charter school specializing in the health and wellness of students, the whole body and the mind. Art is a huge part of the well being of our children. Students come from all over the city and surrounding communities, some even driving forty-five miles to come to school.
My students come from a variety of cultures bringing with them a variety of interests and learning styles.
Many classes are filled with students that have gone through traumatic events that even adults struggle coping with. Despite any life obstacles, my students are over-comers. My students love the arts. They are expressive individuals with a desire for creative outlets.
My school's technology is limited and I receive no technology for the art room. It is always a need with the world's growing technological trends.
My Project
Humans have been telling stories through the arts since the beginning of time. My students have stories to tell and they are asking to do so digitally, using stop motion animation. Stop motion animation productions which manipulate physical objects to create the animation, have been a popular project in schools for many years. Traditionally, clay and a camera was used for the items in the animations but today, everything from phones to tablets and Lego to bits of paper are used in stop motion animation projects. We will need a tablet, Lego bricks and clay to get us started.
Students will work collaboratively, while using their creativity for self-expression through creating art and media.
Students will create and develop characters. They will write their stories and storyboard their ideas. Next, students will build sets and tell their story. Finally, students will share their film with their peers for a peer to peer critique.
