Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My young students are loving, energetic and full of life! They come from diverse cultural backgrounds and all are learning English as a second language. All twenty-five of my students come from a low social economic neighborhood where many parents have to work countless hours to provide basic needs to their children. Our Title I school provides a free breakfast and lunch meal program to all students. They come to school ready and excited to learn every day.
Although the majority of students have limited previous formal school experience - they are ready to develop oral language English skills and learn to be amazing digital storytellers!
Students are never too young to learn to use technology while learning to develop language skills and tell stories!
My Project
All of my students are learning English as a second language and, as a result, they struggle with being able to express their opinions and ideas. My students are also young and are learning to use language conventions to convey meaning and communicate. However, these limitations do not mean they have nothing to say or communicate! My students are creative and full of amazing ideas they can share if given the right tools.
LEGOS Stop motion materials will help my students communicate and create using age-appropriate materials to produce the amazing ideas they have!
As young learners, my students love to build, to create and use LEGOs! LEGOs are an amazing tool that helps with early developmental skills and will let my students turn their imaginations into amazing works of art. With teacher guidance, students can use the LEGO stop motion to create individual stores, role play knows stories and make still motion movies. To further expand their technological knowledge, students will use our class iPod to make small still motion movies that we can share in class, with our grade level and parents. To make learning fun and motivate students, we will use a Hollywood Movie Clapper, The LEGO Animation and LEGO Make Your Own Movie books, and LEGO Bricks and Gears, Creative Bricks, Chain Reactions, Classic Fun Future, and Rainbow Fun building sets!
This project will help my students build on their language development skills while having fun using age-appropriate materials to make still motion films!
