I need to attend the Digital Promise Monterey Challenge Institute so I am able to implement Challenge Based Learning with my students and train other teachers in my district.
This is my 30th year in education. I learn and grow every year. To me personally, I will never be done with my own education. It is a goal of mine to instill that same love and desire to learn new things in my students. As we challenge ourselves and our students we are building a spirit of collaboration and community. When we work together to meet challenges and solve problems we develop stronger relationships.
Our school vision statement states "The Rosa Parks family is a proud, united community determined to inspire." My students are smart and wonderful, and eager to learn.
They happen to come from families who do not have the means to provide more than basic needs, but they are capable and excited to meet new challenges. As I learn new ways to facilitate their learning and growth I can provide them with opportunities at school they will not otherwise have the chance to experience.
My Project
I will attend The Digital Promise Challenge Institute in Monterey, California. The Digital Promise Challenge Institute is a fully immersive, hands-on, unique professional learning experience for educators and education leaders. I will have the opportunity to dive deeply into understanding shared challenges, access expertise and collaborators, and develop solutions that are relevant to my school.
At the Institute I will work in a small team to develop solutions that lead to more engaging and effective learning experiences for my students.
I will gain experience with Challenge Based Learning and be ready to put these ideas to work with my students and peers next year. I will also participate in hands-on workshops such as:
*From Algorithms to Data Visualizations: Computational Thinking for a Computational World
*Students Save the World: Design Thinking and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals
*Take a Look Around: Creating Immersive Media Using 360 Video and Images
I am excited to attend the Challenge Institute to learn more about Challenge Based Learning so I can implement this innovation with my students.
