My students are tremendous individuals who are just beginning to scratch the surface of their own potential! They are 4th and 5th graders who are dealing with various exceptionalities (autism, ADD, dyslexia, etc.). My boys and girls face the world with their heads held high, and they believe that I believe in them.
My students work harder than most to grasp the information others attain at times effortlessly.
They have adopted our classroom motto, "Do the work and the results will take care of themselves." Besides learning difficulties, some of my kids are dealing with difficulties at home. Nonetheless, our classroom is a special place where they can be themselves and be loved unconditionally.
There is a big emphasis on using technology as a resource to help students develop necessary skills in language arts and math. The problem is, the number of computers are extremely limited in each classroom and they are quite old. These older computers are hardwired and do not offer mobility either.
With a set of new Fire 10" tablets, learning apps like i-Ready and Reflex Math can be downloaded to the tablets, giving the students a modern touchscreen interface they are much more accustomed to from anywhere in our classroom!
In addition, my students who are struggling writers can dictate their ideas to the tablet and then admire their ideas in writing! The tablets can be used as digital dictionaries and thesauruses too!
