My students need 2 iPod Touches and 5 headphones with microphones in kindergarten so they can listen to stories, read stories, and record their own stories!
What makes strong early readers? Having books read to you. Some students come to school without ever hearing a bedtime story. Some have never been to a library! As a kindergarten teacher I read countless books, but I am only one person and I cannot make up the lost reading hours without help.
My sweet kindergarten students come in wide eyed and eager to learn!
They are a multi-national bunch who have lived all over the world. Many speak one or two other languages, but all of them come in asking one primary question.... When will I learn how to read? They are technologically savvy and are excited by the use of technology. I want to help them see that technology can help them with their goal to read!
My Project
I use a wide variety of technology to supplement my students' learning. I want them to be immersed in a culture of reading, story telling, and discovery. With the help of iPods and headphones, my students will be able to hear me and other adults read stories to them. They will be able to read age appropriate decodable/ downloadable books to help them become stronger, more confident readers. They will be able to record themselves reading and share their work with others in the classroom and beyond.
This donation is important to my class because they are digital native learners.
This is the only way they have ever learned. I need your help putting this technology in their hands and teaching them the responsible use of its power.
