Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are clever and creative. They are full of personality and are all extraordinarily unique. We are a Title I school finishing up the second year of Priority Improvement. 45.5% of the students we serve are English Language Learners. 85% of our students are identified as "at-risk" based on students receiving free and reduced lunch.
Currently, our students are performing significantly below the state average.
Despite the challenges my students face inside and outside of school, the students are eager to learn and excited to come to school everyday. I plan to offer my students opportunities at school that they may not get at home. I plan to close the achievement gap and I believe the best time to do that is in kindergarten.
My Project
These iPads will be used in several ways to improve my kindergartners' learning opportunities. They can be used for a listening station where students will be able to follow along and listen to stories to build fluency. The iPads can be used for literacy and math stations through ample educational apps. iPads allow for independent work time and provide an opportunity to build strong foundational skills. I will use them in small group instruction to offer differentiation for students. There are also several apps that assist in assessing and documenting student data. Technology is a vital part of our society now and I want to prepare my students to use it appropriately. In kindergarten, we begin learning to research, communicate through using appropriate social skills, and work independently. Having iPads in our classroom will enhance the learning experience and begin closing the achievement gap!
