This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" -Nelson Mandela. A typical day in my classroom can be challenging when my students lack basic needs such as pencils and sharpeners. I would like to provide my students with the materials that they need to be successful.
My school is a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
My students live in an inner city school where basic needs are difficult to meet, and therefore, they cannot solely focus on learning to the best of their ability. As a class we need so much and need to let our creative juices flow. Although we might not come in with a lot of background, my students have a love of learning, and learn best when they are presented with material in multiple ways. I feel that it is important to give them access to different resources and activities to help to meet their individual needs. Many of my students have challenges such as learning disabilities, ESOL students, or being hearing and visually impaired. Their assignments have to be more specialized in order to meet their needs.
My Project
Every child wants to have money, but very few understand the concepts of earning, saving, and investing money. They also do not understand the benefits of giving money away. I would like to build a library of books that will help them learn these concepts.
I would love for my students to read books such as, "Finance 101 for Kids: Money Lessons Children Cannot Afford to Miss," "The Survival Guide for Money Smarts: Earn, Save, Spend, Give," and "How to Turn $100 into $1,000,000: Earn, Save, Invest!" I believe these books will appeal to their curiosity and teach them to be good stewards of their money at an early age.
