My students need digital subscriptions to this program so they can access hands on history curriculum and participate in interactive simulations with their peers.
This is a 7th Grade STEAM Medieval World History class full of bright and inquisitive learners. In the STEAM program at our school, there is an emphasis on using technology, as well as incorporating the other elements of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics into our teaching.
As a history teacher, it is not always possible to connect each element of STEAM, however I am trying to engage students in my class in multiple ways that utilize technology and emphasize the arts.
Throughout our course of study, we also examine each culture's achievements in art, science, engineering, and mathematics.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds but have a common love of learning. They get the most out of learning while collaborating with their peers and I try to give them as many opportunities for that as possible. Overall, my class is always looking for ways to engage with each other and connect with the curriculum, and in doing so, they uncover the deeper meaning of why we study the social sciences.
My Project
Digital Learning in the Medieval World will allow my 7th Grade STEAM History students to access hands-on history curriculum and participate in interactive simulations. A teacher subscription to this digital program will allow me to serve as a facilitator in our study of world cultures. From my end, I will be introducing essential questions and content, while managing students' reading assignments, discussion topics, and interactive simulations. Students will be able to read from the digital student edition on their Chromebook, as well as maintain an interactive student notebook. All digital lessons will prepare students for collaborative engagement and role playing activities that also coincide with teacher presentations and class discussions.
This program will give my students the opportunity to bring to life the cultures, people, and experiences of the world during medieval times, all while improving reading and writing skills, and increasing student engagement.
The TCI History Alive program is designed to help students better access the history curriculum. This program will facilitate deeper understanding of the seventh grade history curriculum by guiding students through units of study that go beyond the textbook. Students will perform a variety of tasks while using the digital subscription of TCI History Alive. The instructional objectives for each lesson are guided by an essential question, which follows with visual analysis of maps, art, or photographs, vocabulary terms, reading and organized note-taking, writing prompts, and role-playing opportunities.
Students remain engaged in the text while also practicing necessary reading skills. Additionally, the opportunity for collaboration with peers in the form of performing dramatic skits and problem solving, makes this program a win-win for all!
