My students are from a small community with high expectations but limited resources. Students are expected to look beyond the classroom and into the world to develop solutions to everyday problems. Students take on this challenge with rigor and purpose developing projects that address issues in their families, communities, state, and nation. They are the solution seekers of the future and deserve all the support they can get.
I endeavor to make learning experiences in the classroom both enjoyable and memorable.
By providing students with the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom, developing partnerships with community stakeholders, I can provide the best learning environment possible. Such experiences not only improve the livelihood of the students themselves, but also improve their families and the community in which they live.
My Project
Students need a digital camera to document a wide variety of learning experiences. Students in my classes develop numerous student-led projects that take them beyond the classroom. To create an atmosphere of self-confidence and pride in their accomplishments, they need to be able to document their work into professional portfolios. Examples of such projects include: a hand washing program for elementary students, financial education for the community, numerous recycling projects, and leadership development. By keeping a record of their work, students can reflect on their accomplishments and be intrinsically motivated to continue developing these projects as well as many, many more.
