I teach at a small Title I school located in rural North Carolina. My school has a very large population of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Few of my students come from homes that provide multiple opportunities for early literacy and exploration. Some of our students have never had the opportunity to leave our small community and have not had access to literacy or digital resources or structured learning environments. This means our school needs to provide these students with many opportunities to develop a love of learning, critical thinking skills, and digital learning opportunities.
Our students are eager learners who love to work together, use technology, and create new things.
My Project
We will create a digital learning station in our library where students can refine research techniques, learn digital etiquette and safety skills, and utilize online subscriptions to enhance the learning occurring in the classroom.
Students are eager to create using digital technology skills.
These Chromebooks will enable this creativity to flourish. Students will engage in digital learning activities such as cyber bullying, privacy, and password safety. They will also utilize online subscriptions such as Moby Max, IXL, and Teach Your Monster to Read to enhance their literacy and mathematics instruction occurring in the classroom and to individualize instruction to meet our student's needs.
