My students are ones who are excited about coming to school even though their home lives are very challenging. Many of the students in my class have gone through things that I could not even imagine going through as an adult. They look forward to coming to school because they know they are loved there. Many come to school from a home that does not value education. My students come from homes where they are not read to at night. They come from homes that do not encourage their success in school.
I strive every day to make my classroom a safe place for my students to come and forget about their home lives for just a little while and focus on being loved and learning.
I love to encourage them to think outside the box and be problem solvers. I want them to be responsible, independent, and problem solvers when they walk out of my classroom. These are all things that they will need to be successful in the real world.
These iPads and Apple Pencils will open up a world of possibilities. Students need to be prepared for the world of technology, and we as teachers need to help them be prepared. Most of the jobs that my students will have as adults have not even have been thought of yet! It is our responsibility to help them be prepared for these jobs as much as possible, even if we do not know what they are yet.
As we have recently seen, technology can amplify the relationship between the teacher and students and between students in the classroom.
Students can collaborate with their classmates in a variety of ways. Some specific examples of ways I would immediately implement the use of these devices in my classroom would be: coding apps, google classroom for collaboration, SeeSaw for them to build an online portfolio and so much more.
