Do you remember the first time you used a computer? "What is a hard drive, and where did my paper go?" Back then I feared technology. Now, I embrace it, and I want my students to love technology, too. However, it's challenging because my students do not have computers and/or Internet access at home.
Most of my students are considered economically disadvantaged, so our school provides free breakfast and lunch.
Funds are limited and budgets are tight. However, I strive to instill in them a desire to learn and grow by introducing reading, math, and technology in fun, creative and nonthreatening ways. I truly believe that technology opens doors for students, and my second graders are ripe for learning and embracing all that it has to offer.
My Project
An interactive SmartBoard is such an amazing educational tool! There are so many apps a second grade mind can learn from! The possibilities are absolutely endless. My class has been blessed with a SmartBoard through a technology grant. Our SmartBoard has the ability to expose students to limitless resources, games and activities to enhance or remedy what they are learning. We are being restricted, however, as to our use of our SmartBoard which has a very limited range because we only have a single connection port in our class. An RM e-pad would provide limitless opportunities to a classroom like ours as it would make our SmartBoard accessible from anywhere around the room! The built-in keyboard would make it possible for my students to enter text witin 60 feet of the SmartBoard.
My students have very little access to technology, so they are enthusiastic and excited about anything technology-related.
They are at the perfect age to experiment and get comfortable with technology. In this technology driven world, I truly believe they should be provided with the latest and greatest in technology.
