Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"How can you work at the computer when your feet are hanging four inches off the floor? And why is your key board sitting on a chair, and your mouse stuck inside the drawer?" My students response: "Because we don't have enough room. Can't we get a workstation?"
My students come from very low-social economic homes.
Even though my students live a life of turmoil, they come to school each day excited about seeing their friends, teachers and having an opportunity to learn. Our K-5 elementary school has been renovated to meet the 21st Century child, we have all new facilities, individual classrooms with lots of space, new bookcases for a classroom library and the finest technological equipment. Our school is located in the Midwest. We are an innercity school that has been identified by the federal government as a school-in-need-of-assistance.
My Project
Having a nice computer workstation in our classroom will provide students a place to either work independently or interact with others while they are using the technology equipment. Having a nice workstation will also improve student behavior and engage students to participate more and internalize their learning. Students can now work together on group projects in a better learning atmosphere.
Does technology influence student learning?
Yes! Establishing solid computer literacy skills as young children, students are empowered with the right skills to extend beyond the classroom. Providing the proper learning environment especially for special needs students can accelerate learning, facilitate communication and create long term possibilities to have a meaningful impact on people, businesses, governments and society.
