This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students are 21st-century learners who come from very diverse backgrounds. Several come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. However, they are all connected by their love of robotics!
Our after-school robotics club is a place where students can connect their brains and passion for technology and put them into action.
They also learn how to collaborate and work together to solve problems.
These students are kind, bright, creative, critical thinkers, and problem solvers. They also actually enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their ideas.
My Project
Last school year, a colleague and I discovered brand new, unused Vex IQ Robotic kits in a storage cabinet at school. In spite of the fact that we are both "digital immigrants," we decided to start an after-school robotics class. The response we received from students and families was overwhelmingly positive and we had to turn students away. This year, we were awarded a grant to procure more supplies. As a result, we were able to add more students to the club but are still lacking basic parts e.g. brains, motors, controllers, and batteries. These digital natives are exploding with creativity!
