This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work as a speech provider in a Title I school in Brooklyn, NY, where most students are from lower-income, immigrant, and single-parent or grandparent households. They come from many backgrounds and speak many languages. All my students are language delayed and qualify for special education services.
Teaching kids with disabilities requires a lot of love, patience, and enthusiasm.
Like any other children, they want to succeed, but learning does not come easy for my kids. The living and learning situation is not ideal. The comfort, structure, and predictability of the traditional classroom instruction are gone. My students keep showing up in my in-person or virtual classroom with a smile, happy to see their friends, learn together, and just be kids.

I've been trying to make this journey a little easier for my pre-K to 5th grade students! As a speech therapist, I am not provided with specific curriculum for my students, so I make many of my own materials and pick and choose from the ideas I find on Internet. You can never go wrong with the book! It is a magical place where you can learn about science and math, your neighborhood and faraway places, famous inventors and researchers, “fancy” vocabulary words and storytelling… the list is endless. I am asking for an Amazon gift card to purchase new digital materials. Kindle Unlimited subscription will give my students and I an easy access to digital books during hybrid learning. The variety of digital materials will help to spark their interest in reading and make their learning fun. Amazon Kids+ is an all-in-one subscription that will give us access to thousands of kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, and educational apps. We can watch and discuss science experiments, animal habitats and journey through space, retell stories and engage in play-based learning with my little ones.
