My students need a Chromebook, printer and ink for careful management of all their data and paperwork that accompanies their IEPs, as well as access to supplemental academic programs online.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from the economically and culturally diverse small city of Hoboken. They are the highest academic need students in middle school and receive resource room services as a result of their IEPs. They are highly motivated and are eager to feel comfortable in a school setting. Many of them have learning disabilities or attention disorders that make learning core subjects in a general education classroom more difficult. As a result, they receive either push-in (I help them in their classroom) or pull-out (they receive 1:1 or small group help in another room).
Despite any documented difficulties these students may have, their motivation and optimism for the learning process drive all the teachers they encounter to be the absolute best support to their learning.
They inspire me to seek out the best supports for them, across all fields of research.
My Project
For special education teachers, careful case management is key in order to ensure that students are not only receiving all the services that are required in their IEP as well as making progress towards their goals and objectives in their IEPs. In order to be the most organized special education teacher, having a computer as well as access to a printer to print important documents will be most helpful, and to print out activities for students that correlate with the lesson plans. A laptop will allow me to have instant access to student data whether I am pulling students to resource room or pushing in to their general education classroom. Instant access to data will allow more pinpointed lesson plans that target the most current student needs. Having a computer will allow the creation of Google Classroom activities for students to use that will allow students who are not comfortable writing with pen and paper type out responses to writing prompts and feel successful. With one laptop and access to internet and all the great educational programs that come with it, students pulled out of the classroom for special education services will not feel like they're missing out.
Being able to have access to digital data files as well as provide students with access to educational programs on a computer can help students feel like they're learning in a way that suits their different learning style.
Creating data files, share with relevant teachers and families, and print copies of pertinent files is vital to my role as a special educator. My school is tight on funds and have been unable to supply access to a computer for my work. Getting access to a computer and a printer will make sharing data and tracking goals immensely easier.
