Tenth through twelfth grade students are special human beings that need creative outlets. Our high school art program serves approximately 600 students. We are committed to bridging a highly competitive edge for students after high school with arts, communication, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Many students need a cheerleader advocating for their creative expression and a studio that fosters student artist growth.
Our ART program is an outlet for communicating concepts and experiences through the creation of art.
Our art studio develops visual literacy, technical skills and innovative thought. Our students thrive in challenging learning environments making personal connections. Many of our students have not had the opportunity or resources to investigate art since junior high school. When we returned from summer break, many of the students requested more than one art class on their schedule. I see several students more than once a week. I believe they need art more to communicate. It is my goal to facilitate an avant-garde art program that lends itself to creative successes in high school and beyond.
My Project
These design tools and software will make drafting and creating digital artwork available to all students. Students who intend to craft animations, artwork and graphics will have outlets and tools to create. We are seeking ways to implement graphic design and digital media in our classroom. Currently FHS art department does not have any digital design tools, and it is our goal to procure tools and software to make this a reality for students who are design focused.
Creating graphic designs in a high school setting can further ideas, innovation and problem solving.
Providing students with these learning design tools will create opportunities beyond our classroom walls. We will be utilizing the apple pen and iPads to create illustrations for a monthly zine, stickers for classroom use, and stationery for our annual art sale.
