Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students love art, but rarely get a chance to create it!
We are a high-poverty high school located in an undeserved neighborhood near downtown LA.
Despite the challenges that our kids face, we have a great group of students who are engaged in their classes, and motivated to go to college.
We have a very high graduation and college acceptance rate. Our students love any opportunity to create and express themselves, and they are very engaged by creative problem solving, imaginative thinking, and art making. Our school is small, and only has one art teacher.
My Project
In our art classes, students learn to use the design cycle to solve artistic problems, using the same cognitive steps that engineers and designers use to solve real-world problems: Discovery, Interpretation, Ideation, Experimentation, and Evolution of ideas.
Digital Drawing Tablets will enable our students to learn industry level digital design, CAD, and editing skills.
As our society begins to understand the importance of creative thinking in the STEM field, we need to play catch up and embrace STEAM in our art rooms as well. I want to make sure my students have the technical knowledge to transfer their art skills into any number of creative science careers.
