My students come mostly from low socioeconomic backgrounds. About 60% of my students are socioeconomically disadvantaged (SED). About 10% of my student are English Language Learners (EL). The Chromebooks I am requesting will allow SED and EL students to attain computer skills and experience online Google Classroom environments. Help close the tech gap among our students.
In my class, my amazing students have been using Google Classroom intermittently, whenever the computer lab or computer cart was available.
I have developed instructional units and been implementing them in an online classroom setting.
My Project
We have completed entire instructional units online, accompanied by virtual labs and reports. We have also done few online dissections. I have an energetic group of 7th graders, eager to learn and explore. Their enthusiasm is one of the many ingredients for my passion and my drive to expand their learning horizon and the realm of their experiences. I am also using ibook to generate content material (digital books) based on the Next Generation Science Standards and utilizing the latest free resources online.
My project is to start developing content units in digital book format, utilizing Google classroom as a digital learning platform.
For each unit, students will rotate through the computer stations in groups of 4 or 5 (depending on hardware availability). Besides completing regular classwork, students will demonstrate understanding and retention of content through processing the information and then producing digital portfolio assignments.
I will continue using DonorsChoose.org until I get a classroom set of computers and have all my students on the same task simultaneously. My goal is to implement a full classroom model of online classroom over four to five steps of funding.
