My students need ten mp3 players due to their inability to read independently and comprehend. The device will be a tool they can use to develop an appreciation of literature.

My Students

Think back to the student that sat quietly when told to read a grade level book. Reluctantly my students face this challenge in reading and comprehension. They have varying learning styles and needs. The differences in reading levels does not reflect grade levels.

I work with students that have a range of different learning abilities and styles.

The students need a variety of different accommodations and modifications to be successful with the general education curriculum. Although faced with these challenges the students have a desire to learn and grow academically and socially.

My Project

My class is requesting mp3 players to be used in the academic setting to aid with reading and comprehension skills. When working on reading assignments or testing, students are faced with the challenge of comprehending and decoding reading passages independently. With the use of the mp3 players the students will be able to work at their own pace to complete assignments without the pressure of tackling unfamiliar words as they read. Thus the device will be a tool that will lessen the frustration level within students fostering a desire to apply themselves and push to complete the task.

As they prepare for Standards of Learning Assessment students will have a broad knowledge base of literary works that they will be able to use as prior knowledge when responding to reading comprehension questions.

In addition this will help to foster confidence within students and develop a desire to appreciate literature.
