Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In this classroom, the safety we have built makes it okay to make a mistake and share experiences. Over 86% are eligible to receive free or reduced-price lunch and a high proportion of these students are economically disadvantaged. Some of them live in their cars or in hotels. This means they may not have consistent access to high-interest reading materials. My students love to read about current issues in which they are interested. I am constantly finding ways to engage them, and they really respond well to articles written with middle school children in mind.
My Project
I was able to buy 4 additional laptops through your generous donations to my original DonorsChoose.org project. I am so motivated right now! My new goal is to have one-to-one devices in my classroom. With these 2 additional laptops, several of my smaller classes will be two-to-one, this means each pair students will have their own laptop to use in class.
These computers will make all the difference in the world to my students
The additional laptops would mean smaller groups and give kids more access to software that will allow them to become stronger readers. They will be able to make Prezis and Flip Grids, go on virtual tours with Nearpod and have the world at their fingertips. We will also be able to use several innovative lessons that I am not able to use at the moment because of lack of laptops. They will also be able to view my instructional videos for scaffolding. When the students need me to model an activity but I'm with another student, they will be able to watch my on demand step-by-step video as many times as they need to! I would be able to have a teacher led station and a computer station, half way through the class, the students would switch. This station model has been successful in our math classes and I would love to bring it to my language arts class!
