I teach in a rural community that serves a variety of students with varied abilities! I teach a wonderful community of first graders! In our classroom, each student is valued and an essential component of what makes our "classroom team." In our classroom, Team means "Together, everyone achieves more!" We work together, play together, read together, write together, smile together, learn together; yet, most importantly, succeed together!
"Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is a progress, working together is a success!"
In response to the current pandemic and the virtual adjustments that we've transitioned towards, I am requesting materials to make the transition as smooth as possible. I would like to provide items/materials that will continue to support our current classroom economy system. I’ve focused on improving our Financial Literacy/Economics curriculum, throughout this year, in our first-grade classroom. The curriculum is designed to teach students key life skills while also giving them a sense of responsibility. As of right now, we meet in class, as well as, virtually, weekly. During these times of uncertainty, I would like to prepare our curriculum for ANY learning environment (face-to-face and/or virtual). I have implemented many reward systems to help teach Financial Literacy/Economics. Our main classroom economy system is aligned with ClassDojo (used virtually AND in-class as a classroom rewards system). Students can earn points for their good choices (such as completion of assignments, behavior, etc.). They can redeem their points for prizes/incentives. Currently, all of our incentives are within our in-class Treasure Box. I would like to transition our incentives from “in-person” prizes to more “digital” prizes. Students are being taught how to budget, invest, save, and spend; and are able to use their points, accordingly. I have REVAMPED my teaching style to accommodate my students' needs. I want to continue to meet the needs of my students in both an “in-person” AND “virtual” setting.
As we transition more towards "virtual learning", these materials will hugely support our Financial Literacy/Economics curriculum.
