Why can't I write what I'm thinking?
Why can't I think what I'm writing?
Wanting success and having success do not come so easy to many of my students.
My public school 8th graders love to learn digitally both on and off campus.
Because we are an International Baccalaureate school, many of our classes include project-based learning. One day, our students can be seen documenting their efforts to reach for the stars as they climb the rigging on a schooner. The next day you can hear them as they reach for the stars as they learn to tackle plane geometry in the classroom. Our risk-taking adventurers are working ever so hard to become digital citizens. An iPad and stylus to share would help level the playing field for our Asperger's students who need digital support as they learn to navigate the often complicated waters of math, science, humanities, and Spanish. Won't you join our crew of learners as we expand our horizons?
My Project
I am a teacher on the go. Five blocks, five classrooms. So, you can see why I am all about portability! An iPad is such an easy and rewarding device for any student to use. Completion of a mobile learning course through my public school district qualifies me to set up digitally in each and every classroom in which I am a co-teacher.
Behavior issues decrease and learning accelerates for our digital citizens. But since all citizens are not created equal, some of our eager teens do not have their own devices to use in the classroom. Help me to bridge the economy divide by providing an ipad for shared use. Note-taking in GA History is now a very cool thing to do. Checking on virtual manipulatives in math makes sense of it all.
Videos of ah-amazing how-tos in Science make believers of us all! Now, don't you know that hearing Spanish and being a part of varied cultures around the world, will make any 8th grader want to surf and reflect about their digital travels? We're onboard. Are y'all?!
My students are good at what they do.
Trying hard to make sense of all the standards that the state of GA has selected for their thirsty appetites is hard work. The pay-off can sometimes be messy before it can be pretty. Invest in them. The knowledge that strangers care about their wants and needs can be a life-saver to those kids who struggle with learning and life itself. Thank you for caring enough to read these sentiments.
