Digital Cameras, Printer and Supplies for 5th Graders

My students need digital cameras, photo printers and school supplies for their science classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When my students explore, discover, create and experiment in and out of my classroom, they often ask if they can take pictures or draw what they've accomplished. Without cameras, printers or basic school supplies to record their memories, my students' creations and projects may be forgotten.

My students are forced to overcome poverty, abuse, neglect and hunger to succeed in school.

Their daily struggles continue to astound and sadden me, but their resiliency and determination to rise above their situations have given me hope and inspiration for their futures. All of my students take the free/reduced lunch at our school because they cannot afford to bring their own lunches. They must often rely on the donations and kindness of other people when they need school supplies or clothes. Several students show up without any school supplies. However, they manage to come to school everyday with a smile on their faces and willingness to learn. They especially love going to science everyday and conducting experiments. My students may lack the right books, pencils, clothes and shoes, but they make up for it through hard work and a love of learning. I'm honored to be their teacher.

My Project

My students are constantly designing and implementing experiments both in and out of the classroom. They need to take pictures of their experiments to observe what has happened over time, to compare with other projects, and to recall and remember what they've accomplished in my classroom. We will use the cameras to take pictures of habitats we find outside the school. The students will be growing plants in their science lab, and they will use the cameras and printers to demonstrate and present what has happened to the plants over time. When we create models of mountains, volcanoes, glaciers, rivers and other landforms, we will take photos and print them out to display around the classroom. The students will be able to see their pictures and projects throughout the year when we display their photos in our room and discuss them in our lessons. The students will use the craft supplies when they make projects and presentations based on their experiments and observations.

If my student receive these items, they will greatly benefit from facilitated science explorations and experiments.

My students take pride in their creations, and I encourage them to record and remember them for the rest of their lives. I will continue to guide and support my students through their struggles and hardships by providing them with the necessary tools for their success. A digital camera, printer, and supplies would greatly help us to achieve that success.
