This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Can you imagine trying to create a school newspaper and/or yearbook without a camera? My students face that problem every day.

In our urban high school, being on the yearbook and/or newspaper staff is a BIG deal!

Students have to complete an application, write an essay and get teacher recommendations in order to be considered for a staff position. Most of these students do not have their own digital camera and I cannot, in good conscience, make owning a camera a requirement for being a staff member.

My Project

My students need one digital camera to complete the school newspaper each month. In order to be able to compile a better newspaper, this camera would be an immense help! My students currently use my personal camera or they wouldn't be taking pictures at all. The addition of this for use by my students would be a fantastic reward for our hard-working yearbook and newspaper staffs.

Twenty years from now, the students at this school will be looking back at the pictures that were taken with this camera.

As a yearbook and newspaper staff, it is our job to provide the best quality, most meaningful collection of pictures every year. Thank you so much for being willing to support my yearbook and newspaper staff members as well as our school as a whole!
