Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a very successful high school journalism class which my students and I built from scratch. We desperately need a high quality digital camera to replace the broken one that we currently have. My students share that camera, but it is not working very well. There are 27 students in the class who produce over two dozen stories requiring photos each month, so sharing a camera becomes very difficult. We are very proud of our journalism program and I would like to do more photojournalism in addition to the fine print journalism we already do. We could also share the camera with the yearbook class, which faces the same need for a digital camera as we do. The kids would use the camera nearly every single day! I would be able to teach them not only how to use the camera, but also how to download and process the photos. With a high quality camera (our current camera is pretty low tech), we should be able to do some pretty interesting photo work and develop our front pages. I believe that the area we would improve most would be sports photography, which is not very well done at this point as a direct result of not having the proper equipment. Trust me! We would be forever grateful if this need were met.
