I am a kindergarten teacher at Florida Avenue Elementary School in Slidell, LA. We are a Title I school. We are of low socio-economic background. Due to Hurricane Katrina, we are now sharing our school with another school that was destroyed. Many of my students are living in FEMA trailers. I would like to photo the students at school as well as at home. This would be a way to capture moments for the students. Many of these families cannot afford something as trivial as a camera at this point in time. There are many other things that take priority. I would like to provide photos of these times. This would be something of importance for both students and families. I would like to capture these days for my students as memories. Therefore, I would like to have a digital camera so that I may capture special moments that occur in the classroom and neighborhood. I would also like to be able to print out the photos so that the students will have immediate access to their pictures. The students will learn the proper handling and use of the camera as well. They will be able to take pictures of classmates and transfer these photos to the classroom computer. From here the students will create stories about their photos. The camera and printer would be an asset to the classroom. The students would be able to look back on the experiences that they face today.
