Our class is creative, inquisitive, curious, and warm-hearted! My students love hands-on, engaging projects that challenge them to think creatively and to problem solve. They enter a classroom each day that promotes them to take risks, collaborate with peers, think outside the box, and to ask questions. In this environment, the students can truly reach their fullest potential. Every day, they are growing one step closer to reaching their goals! They enjoy learning from each other and sharing ideas, and I LOVE learning from them each day!
My students' enthusiasm to become life-long learners inspires me everyday!
Our school is located in a small community centered town in New Jersey. Just like the town in which they live, our classroom is a tight knit, nurturing community, where we foster one another and raise each other up! Our classroom ensures that each student feels comfortable, safe, and motivated to learn.
The students love to learn new concepts, ideas, and facts in all subjects. In order to ensure that our class thrives, we incorporate many different learning techniques to meet all of the individual needs. In our class, the students are self-motivated to reach their fullest potential as life-long learners!
My Project
My students will be utilizing the hard copies of the novel Holes in an author study. We will use the audio copy to ensure that all levels of students will be able to read, enjoy, and comprehend the novel Holes. By studying the author, Louis Sachar, and the novel Holes, the students will be participating in a variety of activities. The students will use the book to complete a character trait activity. They will create a life-like character trait sketch of a character from the book. The students will use details from the novel to depict the character. They will participate in many hands-on engaging activities to simulate the characters' emotions and experiences throughout the novel.
In order to become advanced writers, the students will closely study the author's craft of Louis Sachar.
My students will examine the use of figurative language, tone, mood, symbolism, and writer's voice that Sachar uses to create the masterpiece, Holes. They will emulate the author's craft in their own narrative writing pieces. My students will be motivated to write interesting narratives that grasp the readers' attention. By participating in this activity, the students will receive further affirmation that they, too, are authors!
The class will use the novels to further their comprehension skills. They will be thinking outside the box and will be practicing their inference skills to think deeper about the text. In their own writing, they will practice using techniques that allow the reader to infer details about their story and characters. Most importantly, the students will use the novels to study theme and the main message that they can apply to their own lives. They will learn to have perseverance, to work as a team, to value friendship/family, and how actions can have many reactions that affect a multitude people.
