My students need the Owl Pellet Study Dissection kit and related materials because they provide opportunities for hands-on inquiry based learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of our students are in difficult living situations that can make it challenging to even attend school.
Our student population includes those who are at risk of not graduating and those who need an environment that provides them with the opportunity to thrive.
Our students come to our school not only to earn and recover credits to graduate, but to learn how to make good lifestyle choices. They commit to learning social and emotional skills, as well as completing their academic requirements.
My Project
Our school has a school-wide program where we connect our learning in our different classes together by learning about a different animal each month. Our animal science students take on the role of becoming the school experts on the animal of the month. Owl is our February animal.
Dissecting owl pellets addresses the issue that our small school environment makes it challenging to provide hands-on laboratory activities.
This dissection activity will be used to further the so important inquiry-based learning. What better way to learn about the diet of the owl and ecological considerations than digging through owl pellets and identifying bones?
