Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students uniqueness is what makes them very special! They are all low socioeconomic students. They come from broken homes and unstable atmospheres. Not only that, but some of them were also affected by Hurricane Harvey. Even though they have gone through these struggles they always keep a positive attitude about things and are ready to learn.
The classes I teach are Intro to Ag and Career Cruising.
These courses are to help prepare my students for their future and put them on a path for high school. We focus on a lot of hands on learning and project based lessons. My students enjoy working in groups and doing class projects. They need help being provided for in order to be successful in the classroom.
My Project
I envision a full hands on classroom for my students. The supplies I have picked out are to help transform my classroom into that experience. These supplies will allow them to look outside of the classroom and into the actual agricultural world. I cover all things from Animal Science to Horticulture. I am also an FFA advisor. These supplies will not only help in the classroom but out of the classroom as well. My Ag students will be able to utilize them through their livestock projects and learn the scientific aspect of them in the classroom. I plan on doing a planting project with the Gro-Mats, as well as, using the Poka Ropes to teach different knots that can be used in the livestock industry. The Allflex Tagger and tags will allow me to teach my students the proper way to tag an animal and what the importance of tags are in the livestock industry. The Crop Identification Kit will be an experiment for my students. They will have to learn the different stages of crops and what they look like. I would love for my students to just have something different in their lives that they can take away with them forever. This project would allow me to open up the minds of young learners and help them succeed in their education and future careers.
