Imagine trying to teach 4th and 5th graders two years worth of content-based material in a year of 30 minute classes without materials that support the standards you're trying to teach. South Carolina has been voted third in the nation for its efforts to raise standards and accountability, according to Education Week magazine. However, without the proper resources to meet those standards, achievement will never catch up. Fortunately, you have the ability to help 80 fourth and fifth graders meet South Carolina's challenging standards. The fine folks at Houghton Mifflin have put together a great resource book called ScienceSaurus to supplement regular classroom textbooks. It is a paperback book that gives a little extra information on all the different things we talk about, plus a great glossary. The best part of all is that it's un-textbooky. Written in simple language with colorful, exciting illustrations and pictures, this book draws kids in and helps fill the gap between the textbook and the state's expectations. My students and I would be thrilled if you would consider helping us order a classroom set. Thank you so much!
