My Students
Over half of my students qualify for our free school lunch program. Many live in migrant apartment housing. Several of my students' families work in the fields or do farm work as their job.
All of my students are learning two languages, both Spanish and English.
They are being taught daily in both languages.
All of my students are eager to learn. Their parents want them to work hard in school and make a better life for themselves so that they do not have to follow in their footsteps and do farm work.
My Project
My students are learning to dig deeper with learning by adding sticky notes when they notice a skill we are working on while reading their own books or reading with a partner. Using sticky note skills on their own will help them become better readers overall. The dry and wet erase markers are used during our math time to help build math fact fluency. My first graders do 3 minute timed tests twice a week in math and in order to save paper these special erasable markers work great over a plastic page protector. We don't have enough of these supplies to get us through the end of the school year and we still have 80 days of school left.
