Differentiation with Learning Centers & Technology
My students need an additional laptop for our classroom so we can increase differentiated instruction and personalized learning while utilizing technological resources.
All at once students work together to solve problems for a learning game, submit work in Edmodo, work with me for interventions, or peer tutor. By increasing available technology, differentiation can become a central part of our daily routine in my 6th grade math classroom.
My students come from diverse backgrounds where many do not have Internet access or devices to help them learn outside of school.
By maximizing appropriate use and providing them with rich learning experiences by infusing technology, I hope to ready students for successful futures.
I work in a middle school that has approximately 670 students ranging from fifth through eighth grade.
My students are 6th graders from very diverse backgrounds. We are in a school that has over 50% of the school population on free and reduced lunch, and roughly 1/6 of my students do not have access to any technology or Internet outside of school.
My Project
In our math classroom, we use what technology is available to differentiate instruction and to allow students the opportunity to research and create through rich learning experiences. Many of my students are eager to learn, and they show immense pride in their hard work. With the addition of a Chromebook, our students will be able to access the Internet to complete research for enrichment projects, watch learning videos from my class Youtube channel for extra help with concepts, work on individually tailored lessons through math learning software, and can collaborate and submit work through Edmodo.
Through incorporating technology in this manner, students will be more accustomed to using the tools that are more relevant to their daily lives.
They can receive help or can be challenged with enrichment opportunities to promote critical thinking skills. They will ultimately be more ready to succeed in today's collaborative, technological society.
