I teach first grade at an elementary school in Chesapeake, VA. I am beginning a new adventure at a different school after 22 years of teaching kindergarten, 1st grade, and special education. Although I have not met my students, I know the school environment I am going to provides them with a strong foundation, positivity, and encouragement. I can't wait to be a part of this dynamic staff with supportive teachers and administrators who have the whole child in mind, meeting both academic and emotional needs.
These tablets will make a great impact in my new classroom. Coming from teaching at a Title I school for 12 years and having multiple types of technology in the classroom, I could see the benefit of using it across the curriculum. I integrate technology into my guided reading centers, guided math centers, writer's workshop, to introduce science and social studies content, and also use it as a classroom management tool.
The use of technology allows students to learn on their academic level in a fun and engaging way.
It provides them the opportunity to be remediated if they are functioning below grade level or be enriched and challenged if they are functioning above grade level. The use of technology in the classroom is valuable to prepare students for the future.
