This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are inquisitive and enjoy coming to school. There are a variety of learning abilities and numerous special need concerns. Even though they have difficulty, they are always willing to attempt to work to the best of their ability.
Due to the many different levels in my one classroom, there is a need for a variety of different materials at varying levels.
All of my lessons are taught in small groups at a time, where students are either guided by a teacher, or are in need of materials that they can manage independently.
My school is located in a neighborhood where many parents work long hours and my students go to babysitting facilities. Parents are not always knowledgeable of how to support their children, especially when there are special needs involved.
My Project
My students are in need of many supports in order to work functionally in the classroom. They need visual support as they are working, so them following along on their lined dry erase boards will be beneficial. They will also benefit from pocket charts where different groups will be able to get their own differentiated work independently.
We want to promote independence and an orderly environment for students to work in.
As I am working with small guided groups, utilizing the magnetic charts, other independent groups will be able to get materials and assignments as needed and on their own time table.
