Differentiated Math Instruction in Need of Extra Technology

Help me give my students the opportunity to work at their own pace based on learning needs as they practice math concepts and watch instructional videos. I'll be a 1:1 classroom with these new Chromebooks!

My Students

Our New York City middle school serves students in grades 6-8. Our school is very project-based and we seek to engage and stimulate our students as they work to solve real world problems.

The students in our school represent the academically and culturally diverse population of New York City.

Our ambitious and hard-working students are eager to learn and express themselves. We often use multiple formats and leveled tasks to present information in our classrooms to help learners of all levels. As a math teacher, I will have students on all levels in my classroom at any given time.

My Project

6th grade mathematics is an interesting year for NYC students. It is the first year of middle school and students are suddenly in a classroom with children from several different elementary schools with very different mathematical backgrounds.

My 6th grade mathematicians always begin the year in very different spots academically.

To mind this challenge, I integrate technology into my lessons to meet students where they are in terms of the content. This is where the Chromebooks come into play!

Students who need to reinforce past concepts or fill in academic gaps have the opportunity to watch instructional videos at their own pace using the Chromebooks and take notes. Students who have already masted the concepts have the option to watch a video first, or can begin working on a task that requires application of the relevant skills.
